Dead Peter's body moved to the alternate universe
Described Hypothesis:
Did something of equal mass move when Walter took Peter from the other universe? Dead Peter's body would be the object to move back, so if Peter ever finds out and goes looking for his grave/coffin, the coffin will be empty.
     Supporting Facts And Supporting Evidence:
  1. Something of equal mass must move to the alternate universe. --LabGo 00:24, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
     Contradictory Facts and Contradictory Evidence:
  1. There's no guarantee the Peters were the same mass, especially after one was sick/dying.
  2. We know the Observers are somehow involved in Peter's transfer from the alternate universe; it is possible that they could catalyze the transfer to allow an asymmetric mass transfer
  3. We find out in the episode "Jacksonville" that things of equal mass don't just quietly change places. They crash into each other causing violent upheaval and massive distortions in the matter involved.
  4. In "The Man From The Other Side" Newton chooses to open a portal at a location that has mass on the other side, but is effectively empty on this side. As a result, a bridge with Mr. Secretary on it appears in our universe, but it appears that nothing is transferred to the alternate universe. This suggests that mass is only exchanged if it is in close proximity on each side.
  5. Walter waits until Peternate is at the Lake House, before going to retrieve him in the episode "Peter." I think this is so he can be sure that there will be nothing in his way when he goes through to the other side, and also when he returns. Also, we've learned that a lot of energy is released in the process, but that water can absorb some of this excess energy.

05-20-10
Described Hypothesis:
When opening the combination lock, Walter used "052010" and said he and Bell always used the same numbers. This could be a reference to May (05) 20th 2010, implying he and Bell were planning for some big event to occur (ie, colliding universes) in May 2010.
     Supporting Facts And Supporting Evidence:
  1. The Season Two finale will debut on May 20, 2010 (05/20/10)
  2. With the shift to Friday night, the Season Three finale will debut on May 20, as well. - –DocH my edits
     Contradictory Facts and Contradictory Evidence:
  1. Extra features say that (5+20+10)*pi/(sum of numbers from show LOST) reveal a certain number. Date of season finale?

Newton initiated opening the door between universes.
Described Hypothesis:
Thomas Jerome Newton is the one who initiated opening the door between universes.
     Supporting Facts And Supporting Evidence:
  1. Bell predicts that this will happen, from Momentum Deferred--Aswvwl21 14:51, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
  2. Newton attempts to retrieve the information required to create & open the door in Grey Matters from fragments of Walter's brain, which Bell had planted in three other peoples' brains.--Aswvwl21 14:51, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
     Contradictory Facts and Contradictory Evidence:
  1. Walter states that when Bell & himself tried opening a stable door between universes (Jacksonville), their first trial subject was Belly's Monte Carlo. When it disappeared from our universe, a different car of equal mass appeared minutes later, fused to the statue of John Harvard. If Newton (who is supposedly still in our universe, citing the photo that Olivia presents to Broyles of Newton, posing as a construction worker) initiated opening the door, wouldn't the order have been the same? (Meaning that a building from here would've disappeared first, and then a building from the other side would've appeared here?)--Aswvwl21 14:51, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

Olivia's ability
Described Hypothesis:
Olivia's ability to see objects from the alternate universe is temporary, but may stick around for quite some time before she loses it.
     Supporting Facts And Supporting Evidence:
  1. When she possessed the ability as a child, she retained it for a length of time after it was activated, though we don't know how long.
  2. When Rebecca Kibner obtained the ability to see those from the other side, her ability was retained for a while as well, though it started to disentrigrate too.
  3. Olivia retained the ability long enough to see that Peter had a "glimmer", long after she was frightened.
