1. The Walter that Walter saw at the insane asylum was just a figment of his imagination. He just started to see him because he was starting to go crazy again.

1. Walter was clearly intimidated by being revisited by Walternate several times at St. Claires. The visit was long after Walter had departed the Institution for the Fringe Division AND well after the lingering effects of the medications he had been given at St. Claire's. 1. The balance was maintained by William Bell traveling to the other side, whether he is already there (and not in Europe) or will go there at a later moment. This may also be the reason why William can't go "home" and why Peter is important to the Observer.

1. After our Walter took the alternate Peter from his counterpart, Walternate soon discovered this. He swore vengeance on the other Walter and ZFT is his attempt to strike Walter from both universes. This is why the manuscript has the same offset 'y' because Walternate either copied Walter's (same way Walter got the cellphone) or the same chain of events led to Walternate getting the same typewriter.

1. The text of the ZFT manual seems to refer to an "alternate" universe that sounds like Walternate's, but it could very well be his view of our universe.
2. William Bell is the self-avowed financier of ZFT, which wouldn't make sense because he is Walter's closest friend.
