Observer Appearance Page
I created this page to order the Observer images by episode. This should make it easier to see if one is missing. It also adds to the category Mysteries. It is treated like the Next Episode Clue page. In fact I thought that this page already existed but could not find it anywhere.--LabGo 20:46, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
More difficult to spot?
Is it just me or has the Observer become more difficult to spot in Season 3 episodes? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Zenith (talk • contribs) .
- I have always thought it difficult, not just Season 3. I tend to think about the plot and not look at the nook's and cranny's while the show is airing. I just studied the images on this, and you could be correct. Not counting the "centric" and "acting" episodes, it seems that "background" appearances seem to be getting farther away from the camera as the seasons go by. And some of the shots are moving, or less frames are committed to the appearance. The actor (Cerveris) is a New York dweller, so you know since they have moved 3000 miles away to Vancouver, it is not always him in the shot. Sometimes it is a double. Sometimes a cardboard cut-out. You can tell the cut-outs - there is usually a "person" standing very close to it to make sure it doesn't move or blow over. They also shoot several appearances when he flies in to BC. That way he only travels once a month, not once every week and a half. I think Blair Brown has a similar deal. They can schedule him for the last day of filming of one episode, then the first day of filming of the following episode... that keeps down the expense (hotel/per diem/driver) of having him in town. He can shoot a third episode in a three day visit if a 2nd Unit Director takes him out to a locale that has been scouted, but where the main film crew may not get to for a few weeks - like the master exterior shot of Penn Station in Entrada, or the pedestrian bridge in The Plateau. The Plateau could be a cut-out too. The harder it is to see him... the better chance that is not the actor himself. - –DocH– my edits 22:23, 6 January 2011 (MST)
- Thanks, never thought about the logistical difficulties of filming in my (great) country but I still wonder if there might not be a story reason for the increased difficulty.
