- That is a tough one. Is he the "inner child"? I think Walter had a few inner child moments, like Olivia did, playing with Ella. Theory might posit that he was an Observer in training, or a junior Observer, or an abandoned Observer, or a variation on a standard Observer experiment. Astrid pigeon-holed him as having an "Ability", like the title of the last episode. Is he a child? They said that he may not be... that he may be much older than he looks. If the credits really refer to him as "the child", then that should be good enough - until it changes.
